Speakers
The Season
of Our Joy festival site is unique in
many ways. Some of those ways concern our
speakers and the speaking arrangements.
-
None
of our speakers are paid. They all
volunteer their time to come
and present their
message's.
-
We are not a church nor are
we affiliated with any particular organized
church or ministry. Therefore our
speakers come from various backgrounds
and with varying outlooks on any given
subject. Though we do request that they
direct their messages tow ard
"festival" topics, we don't control
what they say. We believe this provides you
with a broad spectrum of ideas and concepts
that you can take home and "chew on"
as you progress in you Bible studies.
-
We
provide a number of speaking sessions as well as
"break-out" sessions so those who would
like may be able to present a topic of their own.
Those who would like to be on the speakers list
should contact us well before the festival begins as
we try to get the speaking schedule firmed up early.
-
All speakers (either in main
sessions or break-out sessions) are required to take
questions from the audience after the completion of
their talk.
Each of our speakers
believe that Yeshua is the Messiah
and
that the five books of Moses (the
Torah)
are valid for all time
- defining the
way of life for those of us returning to YHVH from
among the nations. Though Season
of Our Joy does believe
that all of the speakers have insight into the
scripture that might add to your spiritual growth,
we do not necessarily
agree with or endorse everything
they teach - either verbally, in
writing, or on their own websites.
Nevertheless, we understand maturity and the
importance of working together when we can
agree upon fundamental principles of unity.
Therefore, it is
important that you - the listener - weigh all that a
speaker says
or writes against the Bible before accepting it as
'truth'.
This year's line up of speakers will be
giving messages that will introduce Hebrew concepts,
give new insight into the meaning of the festivals, and
help us "Prepare the Way" for the coming of Messiah
Yeshua. A partial list of Sukkot 2009's speakers includes:
Please take a few moments to visit each
speaker's web site to learn more about their ministry
and message. As the festival draws closer we will
be listing the title and a synopsis of each speaker's
message during the festival. We will also post the
speaking schedule for those who like to plan each day of
the festival in advance.
So you
will be able to get a feel for the type of messages you
will be hearing at the Season of Our Joy, below is a
list of teachers and their topics from the 2008 Festival
of Sukkot.

An Historical Perspective of Salvation
To understand Yeshua's
mission, we need to understand the history of Israel and
the words of the prophets. In this historical overview
of salvation, we will not only better understand
Yeshua's role as Mashiach ben Yosef, but also the
importance of the two houses of Israel and their
prophetic and inevitable reconciliation that is
beginning to take place in our world today.
Hoshanah Rabbah and the
Prophecy of Haggai
Adonai gave the prophet
Haggai a very important prophecy on Hoshanah Rabbah, the
last day of the festival of Sukkot. Why is this prophecy
so important, and what does it have to do with us and
the work of reconciliation to rebuild the House of
Adonai?
Traditional Jewish
Prayers: Are They Relevant to Us?
If
Yeshua told his disciples to avoid "vain repetition,"
then why should we bother to learn prayers that our
Jewish brothers and sisters have been praying for
centuries? Would this not violate his instruction? In
this session we'll discover the biblical definition of
"vain repetition" and determine if a believer can
benefit from using some of the traditional Jewish
prayers.

Prayer – The Glue of
Covenantal Relationship
Help! This is a four
letter word that we are allowed to utter. All of us
will, or have at some point, uttered this word in our
lives in response to trails, tests and circumstances.
We all can acknowledge the frailties of the flesh. Job
5:7 says that “Man is born to trouble just as surely as
sparks fly upward”. There is a proper response and
solution at our disposal which will equip us to rise in
victory over the troubles that beset us on our journey
through life. What is this solution worth to you in
your life? What price are you willing to pay in order
to secure victory in your life? Please come and join us
as we jettison you into the inner court of our Blessed
Heavenly Father. The connection will be made via the
spiritual hotline of prayer. Prayer is the glue of
covenantal relationship.

Standing On
Our Shoulders -
The Importance
of the Next Generation to the Hebraic Movement
Our children
are our legacy. They will take our thoughts, ideas and
faith to the future. They will pass them on to their
children and influence the people around them. Some will
rise and some will fall. How we prepare them is critical
to the movement, their children and the way their lives
will live. What are the important things that we need to
pass on to them? What about the junk? What does Torah
say about it all? In this study we’ll look at what the
Torah says about raising our children to be the next
generation of leaders, teachers, and God’s
representatives on the earth.
Art,
Faith, and Torah -
Exploring
Ancient Artifacts Depicting the Genesis Tribe, Mysteries
of the Tower, and the 2nd Commandment
Did you know
that the stories of Noah, Adam, Seth, Ham, Nimrod, and
more are recorded in the art and stories of Greek
culture. We’ll look at the links between these earlier
Biblical figures and classical Greek literature and art,
as well as a revealing study of the Hebraic meaning of
art, its connection to worship to the second
commandment.

Flag and Banner Workshop
A flag presentation with a
demonstration afterward. The presentation will cover
banner worship in scripture, the hows and whys as well
as information for making your own flags. Afterward,
participants will have an opportunity to learn different
flag moves and work with some flags.
Taking Dance Home
- Taking Dance Home & Choreographing Your Worship
Often when you go to a
conference or the feast you learn dances and want to
dance them at home. What happens if you do not sing the
same songs at your fellowship or you are the only one
that knows the steps? How do you bring the idea of
dance to a fellowship? Shannon will lead you through a
simple way to teach choreography, make up choreography,
and lead a worship dance circle while making sure that
you are acting in a respectful and Godly way toward your
leadership and Yahweh. This class will cover a large
number of common steps and will be slightly advanced.
However, everyone is welcome.
YHVH desires us to worship
him in body and spirit. We hope to encourage worship,
through flags, song and dance, to praise YHVH, for He is
worthy.

Yahweh’s Festivals -
The Revelation of His Ultimate Plan for Man
God’s people gather
together in various locations around this world on
specific days in the calendar year for one reason in
particular; because God Almighty has requested our
presence and participation in these, His Holy
Days. These festivals are not simply outdated Jewish
religious ceremonies, as is commonly presumed by
mainstream Christianity; but are in fact living, divine
appointments with Yahweh- they are memorials to what has
been.... revelation for what is.... and are rehearsals
of things yet to come.
God Almighty has declared
the commencement, the development, and the fulfillment
of His plan for mankind from the very beginning of
creation.... outlining the steps that we need to take in
our walk with Him. The annual Holy Days are an
account of the marriage of the Messiah to His Bride that
was given to us prophetically in advance. They
picture the different miraculous events of His life that
have everything to do with the subsequent offering of
salvation to mankind

The Voice of the Herald
Heralds and Proclaims
- From the Sukkot
Liturgy
One of the most impressive
pieces of liturgy, known as “The Voice of the Herald
Heralds and Proclaims” is taken from Isaiah 40.3-8. This
passage of scripture addresses the message of Elijah the
Prophet as he prepares the way before the Messiah. The
liturgical piece is line for line a compilation of
Jewish thought concerning the coming of the Messiah.
Israel Update -
Politics, Prophecy
and Temple
According to the prophets
of Israel, Jerusalem is the heartbeat of the world.
Events, prophecies and behind the scenes information
which bring today’s world into focus are the topics of
this session. Joe will give a report on the progress of
the Temple building program and details of the meeting
he and others had with Rabbi Chaim Richman and Rabbi
Yisrael Ariel of the Temple Institute and Sanhedrin on
the measurements of the Temple in late August.

Prepare The Way
The feast of Tabernacles
pictures the beginning of the reign of Yeshua the
Messiah on the earth as King of Kings. Those who rule
with Him will be Israelites from all 12 tribes of
Israel. Sometime between now and then those of us who
are non-Jewish believers and those who are Jewish
non-believers will have to join together and live as one
people – Israel. Will we be able to do that if we
continue to critique each other’s walk? In this
introductory session, we will discuss this and other
issues facing the Hebraic community as we begin to
prepare the way for the restoration of His people to the
Land.

The Highest Form of
Worship
In the Christian community
singing and praise of God is often considered the
greatest thing we can do for Him. How high is it on the
Creators list of desirables? The word translated
'worship' in the Hebrew scriptures
'shachah',
literally means: to bow down,
depress, or prostrate oneself. It is indeed closely
tied to singing, religious music, gathering at the
temple, praise of God and similarly animal sacrifice.
However, there is only one instruction in the Law where
the Creator specifically enjoined worship. So, while God
frequently warns against worship of other Gods, He does
not seem to be anxiously desirous of our praise for
Himself. What did He most appreciate then and what now?

Answer
to the Un-asked Question
Details to be announced at
the Feast but it will be timely, relevant and
challenging both to those newly called and those who
have been “in the faith” for many years. You will learn
what you should care about as well as what you must not
care about. An interactive presentation.

Preparing for the Wedding
I purposely chose to speak at the very end of the feast to
try to draw some of the information presented by other
speakers into a useable plan of action for believers to
go from the festival and be equipped to continue their
personal walk and to also prepare the way for those that
YHVH is in the process of calling into His service.
Yahshua and His disciples and many more down through the
years prepared the way for our understanding and we need
to continue to prepare the way for those yet to come.
The
Hebrew Roots calling on our lives requires that we be
different. Most of the time we will be out of step with
most of society and we accept the authority of our
Messiah to point the way for us to go. We accept His
rule over us and will strive to walk in His ways so that
as time grows shorter we are truly prepared for the
Wedding of the Lamb.

Preparing the Way: Not
Missing the Mark
Presentation Synopsis: Is
sin "missing the mark," or "transgression of the law?"
What is the mark? Is Yeshua the end of the law? Why is
lack of faith called sin? What about not doing what one
knows to do? Will sin keep us out of the kingdom? Is
this all confusing and too hard? Is there any hope?
Let's listen, learn & reason together, and clear our
vision by the Word of God.

Jewish “Wanna-Be’s” - Doing Jewish Things in a Non-Jewish World
The
world in which we live in is certainly victim to
identity crisis and role confusion. Has this culture
effected the Messianic movement? Are we too suffering
with a case of identity confusion in the expression of
our faith? In this session we will discuss the
difference between a commandment, minhag, halacha,
and Jewish tradition as we work toward answering the
question: “Why are we doing Jewish things in a
non-Jewish world?”
We Were In a Synagogue - Understanding Our Past, Paints Our Future
“Shabbat Shalom” is not just a greeting; it is a state
of being—one that once was an important part of the
weekly routine for all disciples of Yeshua. The early
generations of apostolic-era believers kept the Sabbath
week-after-week, in the synagogue, on the Shabbat.
And, we are back. After a long road through history,
believers in Yeshua are returning to the original
context of our faith. Through different paths and
different journeys, the Spirit of God is bringing us
together once again—to the same place—to keep the holy
Sabbath as one people in obedience to the commandments
of God.
The Lips of the Righteous - Successfully Teaching Difficult Biblical
Truths
“The
lips of the righteous feed many...” (Proverbs 10:21)
“Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still
wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his
learning.” (Proverbs 9:9) As people seek the Scriptures
for understanding and application of God’s Word, we can
be a voice that brings assistance or a voice of that
brings resistance. Glean from the experience and tools
that we have learned to effectively share the difficult
message of Torah with graciousness and balance.

Introduction to the
Mitzvah of Lulav
Sukkot is a season filled
with opportunities for different mitzvot (Good Deeds)
such as, dwelling in the Sukkah, giving to the poor and
needy, singing special hymns, and psalms, and waiving a
Lulav (a collection of four different types of
vegetation). This teaching will give an introduction to
the Mitzvah of Lulav an often over looked Mitzvah, and a
strange one at that. This workshop will look at both the
spiritual and physical sides of the Lulav. Themes to be
discussed in this workshop are:
·
The mitzvah
of Lulav, Rabbinic or from the Torah.
·
Basic Laws
of the Lulav.
·
How was this
done in the time of Messiah?
·
Lulav a
picture of the body of Messiah.
·
Lulav a
picture of the believer.
·
Shadows of
the Messiah in the Lulav.
The speaker will be
drawing from the Torah, The New Testament, Rabbinic and
Chassidic sources as well as some esoteric Jewish
sources. In summary this teaching will take the physical
and simplicity of the Lulav, and show you just how
spiritual this mitzvah can be.
Jackie Miller
Signing in Worship
Two songs will be taught:
Awesome God (which is done at each service) and Highways
to Zion (which will be done at Friday’s and Tuesday’s
service). Printed lyrics, a list of signs with
descriptions and pictures will be provided for each
song.

Virgin Birth –
Historical???
Was Yeshua really born
from a virgin? Despite the resounding “YES!” from
Christianity, many Jews claim to be able to refute this
“fact” with evidence. Who’s right? Fasten your seat
belts for an exciting journey through the Hebrew
Scriptures, focusing on what Matthew calls the sign to
“Prepare the Way”, spoken of in Isaiah 7:14. Many
sources will be brought to bear on this controversial
subject, from the Septuagint, Aramaic Targums, Middrash
Ruth Rabba, Dead Sea Scrolls, New Testament, 1st
century Jerusalem Temple scribes, scientific discussion
of DNA and blood, and many of the popular and opposing
arguments of the past 2000 years. Join us as the Weight
of Evidence is gathered and a verdict is reached on
whether the anti-missionary arguments stand or fall.

The
Heavens Prepare the Way
The Star of Bethlehem
fascinates. But was it a “Real” star? If so, which one?
And can we find it by going back in time and looking at
the sky just like the “wise men” of old? For millennia,
believers, scoffers, and the curious have wondered at
the Biblical account of the Star. For many doubters, the
account of the Star is easily dismissed as myth. For
many believers, it's a mystery accepted on faith. But
what happens if we combine current historical
scholarship, astronomical facts, a little computer
software, and an open mind?
Find out how Stonehenge,
the Great Pyramid of Egypt, the Tower of Babel, and the
Mazzaroth (Job 38:32) demonstrate the watch-like
precision in the design of the universe so that all the
inhabited earth (Psalms 19:4) knew that the “Fullness of
Time” had arrived, “Preparing the Way” for “He who would
come”.

Be Not Afraid
This talk is being given
at the women’s luncheon. In order to do our part to
prepare the way for the return of our Messiah, the
subject of obedience is of utmost importance. What part
can we play as women? Our God promises to take care of
us when we obey Him, just as He took care of Yeshua
through his life, crucifixion, and resurrection. In
spite of our fears, needs, or worries, God still expects
us to not be afraid and to trust Him in faith to work
things out for us, and our families. Be sure to leave
all your fears at the door.

The Place of Protection for the Last Days
Revelation 12 describes a woman hidden in the wilderness while a ravenous red dragon seeks to
devour her Man Child. Decoding John’s vision using Hebrew, Greek and the constellations,
Rebecca reveals who these mysterious characters are and which believers will be protected during the
Great Tribulation.
Healing Oils of Ancient Scripture
The Bible mentions over 33 species of fragrant plants with
over 1,035 references to essential oils and/or plants in
the Old and New Testaments. During Biblical Times,
Essential oils were inhaled, applied to the body, and
taken internally in which the benefits extended to every
aspect of their being physically, spiritually,
emotionally, and mentally.

Rebuilder of the Breach
“And they that shall be of
thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise
up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt
be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of
paths to dwell in . . .”
(Isa 58:12).
Did you know that you are
to be a breach repairer and a path restorer? Kind of
sounds like a job for a construction worker not a
Christian. So just how does this apply to you? Have you
ever had a breach in a relationship with someone you
love, a friend or family member who you have been
estranged from ever since? Is there a way to repair
broken relationships, is it even necessary? We will be
looking at how we can repair, restore and revive
relationships in our lives. This is a message of both
hope and practical application. We will explore several
steps you can take to fulfill Isa 58:12 in your life.

Intermediate Dance Class
“Let them praise His
name with the dance; Let them sing praises to Him with
the timbrel and harp”
(NKJ Psalm 149:3 ). This class is for those men
and women who want to extend their Hebraic dance
knowledge with songs they can take back and teach their
local congregations and fellowships. Do you know a few
basic steps? Do you love to worship dance? Please
come, if anything you can work off all the food you have
been eating here at the feast. This is good for your
heart! (both spiritually and physically).

From Tabernacles to Sukkot
For over twenty years I
faithfully observed the Feast of Tabernacles with an
incomplete understanding of its rich symbolism and
meaning. It was not until being introduced to the
Hebraic roots of the faith that the ancient teachings
became real and meaningful. In this message, I would
like to share my journey and how an understanding of
traditional teaching can give us a new and deeper
appreciation of God's great plan for mankind.
Olam Haba – The Age to
Come
Scripture teaches there
are two more time periods yet ahead before the history
of mankind is completely written. The first of them,
the Malkhut Shamayim (Kingdom of Heaven) is a
1000 year period which completes the 7000 years allotted
to mortal man. Following the Malkhut Shamayim is
a period called, in Jewish tradition, Olam Haba
(The World to Come). Who will be in Olam Haba?
How does one yet there? These questions will be
explored in this closing session of Sukkot 2008.
Y'shua,
Pharisees, and Hypocrites
The Gospel accounts record
several encounters between Y'shua and members
of the Jewish sect called the Pharisees. In some cases,
Y'shua used the term hypocrite to describe their
behavior. As a result, many Christians have stereotyped
all Pharisees as hypocrites. Is that really the case?
Were there good Pharisees as well? This teaching will
focus on differences in doctrine among the Pharisees
themselves and give some examples as to where Y'shua
agreed with their teachings.
